History

Villa Mugatiya was once a noble house that belonged to the village head of the area, a prominent and influential post in the native headmen system in Ceylon (Sri Lanka) during the colonial era. The arachchi had much control over the villagers by the quasi-judicial powers to keep the peace, carry out revenue collection and assist in judicial functions. British rulers offered this post to wealthy influential families loyal to the British Crown.

Glorious Noble House

The Villa Mugatiya preserved much of its original condition including Exposed wood and stones, concrete meld with Jack wood doors and windows to protect the glory of this noble house. There are coconut, mango and various other indigenous fruit trees surrounding the house.

Facilities

Guest rooms are arranged in 2 buildings separate from the old house dedicated to dining, living and more. There are still other inviting and intimate spaces for gathering in smaller groups or for enjoying yourself in seldom. All four guest suites have air conditioning and ceiling fans, as well as rain showers and views on the property. Wi-Fi is available.
