Ravana Cave and the Temple

Ravana Cave is a natural cave with a beautiful and small temple nearby. This is a perfect choice for a hike as well as a professional dive as the infamous Bluewater pond (Nil Diya Pokuna) is located inside this cave.  The surroundings of the temple are very serene and calm and certainly is a hidden beauty for many travelers as it is not most famous among visitors of Ella. Ravana Ella Purana Viharaya is the temple’s Sinhalese name. Ella is a popular backpacking destination famous for its trekking tracks, waterfalls, and scenic views.  Moreover, the area has a rich bio-diversity, dense with numerous varieties of flora and fauna. Green hills covered with cloud forests and tea plantations add more scenic value to this town.

However, most travelers are unaware of the mythological significance of link to Ramayan epic of this hill destination. Ravana waterfall is also situated closeby this cave. 

Methods of reach:

Road
Via Colombo-Badulla 99 line and turn at Kumbalwela towards the Wellawaya line, or else, via the A16 highway (Beragala-Hali Ela) which is also a part of the Colombo-Badulla 99 road.

Rail
Ella railway station is the 75th station on the Main Line and is located 271.03 km (168.41 mi) from Colombo. The station has one platform and all trains running on the Main Line stop at the station.
